Mycelia is a dynamic game of tactics - a competition for space and resources to create your own mushroom kingdom. The game follows the life cycle of fungi. Growing mushrooms to score points, sporing them to expand your mycelial network and eventually seeing them decay to unlock special actions.
Dynamic Board
The board is created from individual triangle tiles representing different nutrients and minerals. Each player has the ability to add more tiles on their turn giving a unique board each time you play. No two games will be exactly the same!
Simple to learn - hard to master
Each turn a player must perform 2 actions and with 6 actions to choose from it's an easy game to pick up, even for folks new to boardgames. But there's also plenty of tactical depth to engage even the most well seasoned board gamer.
Mycelia is a 1-4 player game. The main aim of the game is to gain as many points as possible by growing Mushrooms. It's all about being efficient at growing mushrooms whilst protecting your network or even disrupting other players networks. A player has two actions to perform on their turn and only 6 options to choose from:
The ‘Mother mushroom’ is your most versatile and useful piece in the game. You can move your Mother mushroom up to two spaces. This allows you to spore in new locations, collect bonuses, block other mushrooms and steal other players spores for your own.
The board is created from individual triangle tiles representing different nutrients and minerals. Each player has the ability to add more tiles on their turn giving a unique board each time you play.
Your mushrooms have a unique set of resource requirements to grow. The spores have to be connected in your mycelial network and must be grown on one of the tiles where a spore was used. The more complex the combination of resources the higher the points.
You can spore from your Mother mushroom or one of your fruited mushrooms. The amount of spores each mushroom releases is indicated on the card. Just like in the wild the spores are spread by the wind. Therefore the direction in which the spores are dispersed is determined by the wind die.
Your fruited mushrooms have a life span and once they have spored twice they now can decay. Reset your token and spore counter and slide the card under your mat. Then perform any bonus actions displayed on the flipped card.
Pick up a new mushroom card from the 3 displayed or take a gamble and pick straight from the deck and add to your hand.
When a player has decayed a mushroom under all five of their player mats the game ends and the person with the most points is crowned King or Queen of the fungi kingdom. All hail **insert your name here**
The Automata can be played as a solo variant as well as being added in as another player in a 2/3 person game. The automata's turn, much like a normal turn, consists of two different actions. These actions are determined by the automata cards (white design on the back) and must be performed in a certain order. If an action cannot be performed then next action on the list is performed. There are two difficulty levels on the automata cards. It's a very efficient and ruthless automata and can be tricky to beat. But that's why we're all here yes? To be challenged?
